The foundations of volunteering

From history to values

The second stage of our project is strictly connected to the historical section and at the same time represents its logical development. What we want to focus on here is  an analysis of the basic principles which are expressed in each and every solidarity action, which constitute the foundations of civic engagement, which can be seen as the common denominator for all volunteer organisations.
In this section we will present the idea that modern volunteering, independently from the tangible actions it realizes, is characterized by a series of features representing the core of solidarity. In times when vocabulary gets fuzzier and fuzzier and words lose their meaning, it seems crucial to spell these features out and point them up in order to let volunteering organisations play a precise role in XXI century society and obliterate a naively mawkish connotation that doesn't seem to concern younger generations.
